NIGERIA: 43K Christians Killed, 18.5K Abducted, 17.5K Churches Attacked in 12 Years

The International Society for Civil Liberties & the Rule of Law (Intersociety), a non-profit based out of Nigeria, has released a new report detailing the mass violence against Christians in Nigeria over the past 12 years.

The report states that 43,000 Christians have been killed by Nigerian Islamic radicals in the last 12 years, 18,500 have permanently disappeared, 17,500 churches have been attacked, 10 million people have been uprooted and about 2,000 Christian schools have been attacked.

Sections of the report read as follows:
Intersociety, Nigeria: Wednesday, 4th August 2021: The total number of ‘direct’ Christian deaths since 2009 or from July 2009 to July 2021; a period of twelve years, is independently put at no fewer than 43,000. The figure arises from total jihadist killing of not less than 72,000 defenceless citizens. The killings had emanated from the propagation of radical Islamism in Nigeria or any part thereof.

Nigerian Jihadists also sparsely and collaterally target moderate Muslims as collateral mistakes or punishments of those collaborating with the ‘unbelievers’ (Christians) or in revenge for state actor attacks against their targets, or for purpose of enforcement of Islamic Sharia law or code.

The atrocities of the Jihadists majorly directed at Christians and their properties including homes, worship and learning centres; ancestral lands, farmlands, forests and bushes include: massacres, killings, mutilations, slitting of throats and wombs, beheadings, torture, maiming, abductions, hostage-taking, rape, girl-child defilements, forced marriages, disappearances, extortions, forceful conversions and destruction or burning of homes and sacred worship and learning centres as well as forceful occupation of farmlands, destruction and forceful harvesting of farm crops and other internationally prohibited acts.

In the same past twelve years, it was also independently found that no fewer than 30 million Christians especially in Northern Nigeria and their ethno-religion were threatened and ten million of them have been uprooted, six million forced to flee their homes or geopolitical locations to avoid being hacked to death and over four million displaced and became IDPs.

Pray for the believers in Nigeria.

Ask the Lord to hear the cries of Nigerian believers to bring an end to the years of strife and bring peace, protection and restoration.

Pray the suffering of so many will not be in vain but that the Lord will bring great spiritual blessing to the nation.

Pray the Nigerian government and the international community will seek to protect the vulnerable and bring an end to the violence. Pray for wisdom, strength and compassion.

  1. So much suffering throughout the world, and Nigeria is a prime example to many of what it looks like to truly serve the Lord and be persecuted even unto death for our faith! (Revelation 6:9-11). May we all pray for Gods mighty hand to move on behalf of those who suffer daily to show forth His glory in the earth. God Bless and keep you Always.

  2. Thank you for posting. Because we have the freedom to believe here, we don’t won’t to forget what our brothers and sisters go through in other parts of the world. I am always praying for Nigeria. I have friends whose homes and families are there. 🙏🙏
